ShardHex ("we", "our", "us") is a desktop application for erasure-coded file splitting with encrypted cloud distribution. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use ShardHex.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 License Activation

When you activate a Pro license, we collect your license key and a device identifier to manage license activations. We do not collect your name, email, or any other personal information during activation.

2.2 Payment

Payments are processed by PayPal. We do not store your payment details. Please review PayPal's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle payment data.

2.3 Cloud Provider Credentials

API tokens and OAuth credentials for third-party cloud providers (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive) are stored locally on your device. We never transmit or store these credentials on our servers.

2.4 Feedback

If you submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, the content you provide is sent to our server. Do not include personal information in feedback unless necessary.

3. How We Use Information

  • License keys and device IDs: to validate and enforce license activations.
  • Feedback submissions: to improve the product and fix bugs.
  • Update checks: the app periodically contacts our server to check for new versions. Only your current version and platform are sent.

4. Data Storage & Security

All file processing (splitting, merging, encryption, steganography) happens entirely on your local device. Your files are never uploaded to our servers.

Cloud uploads go directly from your device to the cloud providers you configure. We act only as a facilitator—your file shards are never routed through our infrastructure.

5. Third-Party Services

ShardHex integrates with third-party cloud storage providers. Each provider has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them before connecting your accounts.

6. Data Retention

License activation records are retained as long as your license is active. Feedback submissions are retained indefinitely to help improve the product. You may request deletion by contacting us.

7. Children's Privacy

ShardHex is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
